Barker Nichols, LLC is a Dallas based real estate investment, development and
management company formed in 1987 as a successor to Arbor Development Company,
founded in 1975.
Barker Nichols specializes in mixed-use historic building renovation in or near
downtown. Developments include: The Davis Building, an historic 20-story
residential loft development, converted in 1999; 601 and 611 Elm Street, known
as the Purse Building, which includes retail and commercial office space; and
501 Elm Place, developed in 1984 and includes three buildings constructed
between 1902 and 1908. The building serves as office, retail, and parking space
in the Historic West End. The company received The Texas Award for Historic
Preservation for the Texas Historical Commission for its work on this project.
Chip Johnson is the President of Barker Nichols, LLC. Through Barker Nichols and
its predecessor, Arbor Development Company, Mr. Johnson has been responsible for
the acquisition, financing, development, and marketing of over 14 residential
and commercial developments.
Mr. Johnson is a 1971 graduate of Southern Methodist University and is active in
community affairs. He has served on the Advisory Board of Dallas’ St. Jude
Children’s Hospital and is a former Director of the West End Association.
